Ajikoji

Glittering narrow alleyways line a small area about 200m x 150m on the west side of JR Kii-Tanabe station. Known as "Ajikoji", it is the largest food entertainment district in the Kinan area, boasting over 200 restaurants and drinking establishments. Not only tourists, but many locals also frequent the location. The bonito (katsuo) in Tanabe is best enjoyed as sashimi. The specialty is the "mochigatsuo", with its chewy texture from the evening on. Start off with some reasonable cuisine of fresh local fish or an izakaya and move on to the numerous bars and snack bars! Ascend on to the second or third spot, getting to know the locals, and before you know it, it will be morning. Enjoy strolling around the glimmering alleyways.
