Drive-in Kumagera (Black Woodpecker)
There is a large log house along National Route 241, which connects Lake Akan and Ashoro Town. It is the drive-in “Kumagera” (meaning “Black Woodpecker”), that has set up shop in this area since 1998. A firewood stove burns inside the store, and its wooden interior creates a warm atmosphere. Most of the interior was supposedly done by the owner himself. Additionally, the scenery of Mt. Meakan from the window is as beautiful as a framed painting. The popular “hamburger lunch” and the “fried shrimp set meal”, which comes with three large pieces of shrimp, are very voluminous meal sets that are satisfying even for men. The cheesecake dessert is also a popular gem with regular customers. One of the main attractions is a conversation with the shop owner, who values the ideal of “ichigo ichie”, a phrase that means “a once-in-a-lifetime encounter, hence it should be cherished as such.” Why don’t you stop by on your way home from mountain climbing to create a nice trip memory?
