Roadside Station Aioi
“Aioi” is located along the traffic route “National Route 240”, which connects the Kushiro area and the Okhotsk area. In addition to the produce corner, pure buckwheat soba noodles made from Eastern Hokkaido buckwheat flour, handmade tofu made from locally produced soybeans, and the popular local gourmet “Kumayaki” are also sold there. “Kumayaki” is a taiyaki-style red bean confection that is made in the shape of a bear. All of the red bean paste and dough are handmade, and because of the sweets’ delicious taste and cute appearance, they are popular not only with tourists but also with local residents. In addition, there are various facilities where you can enjoy your trip, such as a cafe renovated from the old railway station and an exhibition vehicle on the former Kitami-Aioi Line that can be used as a rider house (closed in winter).
