Restaurant Caravansarai

Renovated from a 50 year-old ume plum warehouse by the chef's grandfather, this restaurant features a rustic atmosphere with clay walls, hard-packed earthen floors, and an open ceiling. Located 30 minutes from downtown Tanabe by car, you can enjoy authentic French cuisine far away from the traffic lights and convenience stores of the city. While training at an Auberge in Nagano Prefecture, the chef is said to have won the highest award in a game cooking contest with a venison dish. Cooperation from the moment the wild boar or deer are caught and humanely killed to the local game butchery results in surprisingly soft and odorless game dishes. This popular restaurant gets repeating customers from both in and out of the prefecture. With its incorporation of local Wakayama prefecture ingredients as well as high quality ingredients such as truffles and foie gras, you can enjoy authentic dishes made with the chef's love of the local area.
