Ainu Restaurant / Folk Art Shop Poronno
“Akanko Ainu Kotan”, located in Akanko Onsen. One of the corner shops is the Ainu restaurant “Mingei Kissa Poronno”, where you can conveniently enjoy the traditional dishes that Ainu people have been eating since ancient times. While preserving the Ainu culinary recipes that have been passed down from our ancestors, we are also working on developing new menu items. The most popular “Yukuset” is a meal set of Yukuohau (a soup containing venison and wild plants), Amamu (takikomi rice), and Mefun (salmon-blooded salted fish). Ainu cuisine is full of tasty, flavorful dishes that make the best use of the natural flavor of the ingredients, with salt being the only seasoning. The shop owner collects grasses and nuts from the local neighboring areas to be used for wild plants, mushrooms and tea. We invite you to enjoy Ainu cuisine in the shop’s warm interior, decorated with many traditional Ainu craft works.
